Baseball Party Planning

Next time you're planning a party, consider a baseball theme party. Baseball, America's Favorite Pastime, is a game loved by young and old. Baseball is a great theme for a kids' birthday party, Little League team party or family party. To make party planning simple and easy, choose a favorite Major League Baseball team to plan your party around.

You can choose any team, but in this case let's assume the Chicago White Sox were chosen as the team for our baseball party.

Invitation:  Make a great first impression on your guests by sending a White Sox party invitation. Encourage guests to wear their favorite baseball shirt, hat, or dress in their favorite team colors. If you plan to play baseball, don't forget to have your guests bring their gloves, bats and balls.

Decorations: It's easy to decorate a table with coordinating plates, napkins, and cups featuring the White Sox team logo. Hang banners, posters, or pennants on the wall. Choose decorations like balloons, streamers, and plastic table covers to match White Sox black and white colors.

Food:  Traditional baseball food is easy to make and kids love it. What's not to love about hot dogs? Popular baseball party snack foods include Cracker Jack and salted peanuts (in-shell). Serve something sweet like cotton candy or Big League Chew gum. For dessert ice cream novelties like ice cream cookies, ice cream sandwiches, and Klondike Bars are sure to be a hit.   You could also decorate cookies or cupcakes to match the baseball theme.

Games: A favorite party game is a variation of Home Run Derby. The Home Run Derby has become a favorite All-Star Game event, and you can play a version in your own backyard. Provide a set of White Sox eye black face decorations for the kids to wear and they'll feel just like Jim Thome, Paul Konerko or a past hero like Frank Thomas in the batter's box.

Music: A baseball soundtrack can be a great way to liven up a party. You can make a soundtrack by choosing songs from iTunes, then burn a CD to play. Some ideas include favorites like Take Me Out to the Ballgame, Centerfield by John Fogerty, or the familiar Knock the Cover Off the Ball theme from The Natural. Choose stadium songs that are popular at your home teams park. In the case of the White Sox, at US Cellular Field you'll hear Thunderstruck by AC/DC at the beginning of game, Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye by Steam when the opposing pitcher is knocked out of a game, and Sweet Home Chicago if the White Sox win.

Movies: If your baseball party is a sleepover, rent a baseball movie or check one out from your local public library. There are many kid friendly movies available. For younger kids consider the G-rated Everyone's Hero or The Rookie. PG-rated options include The Sandlot, Field of Dreams, or a Bad News Bears (original, remake or sequels). A baseball blooper DVD would also be a fun choice.

Favors: Goody bags are a great way to thank your guests for coming to the party. Items to fill a baseball goody bag include stickers, temporary tattoos, squishy balls, bouncy balls, candy, Big League Chew, and baseball cards. Kids will have a great time opening their cards and trading for their favorite players. Serve drinks in reusable plastic cups like the ones you find at the ballpark. Send one home with each guest for a great souvenir.

Take in a Game: If you have a small group of party guests, take in a game. It will be a memorable experience for everyone. Start the party at home, then take the kids to a Major League Baseball game. Major League parks continue to become more kid-friendly, and many have at least one or two low cost seating areas. Also look for promotions that combine low cost tickets with food vouchers, or games that feature promotions kids will enjoy, like bobble-head, hat, or t-shirt giveaways.

Find items featuring the White Sox logo at Home Run Party. A site like Home Run Party makes planning easy because you can find everything you need in one place.  Find items for all big league teams, including the Red Sox, Cubs, Yankees, Tigers, Cardinals, Mets, Dodgers, and all the rest.  Below is a checklist of items you'll need to throw a great baseball party!
